Mic Hype is an interactive Hip-Hop blog that reads like a magazine feels like a conversation. Started by Superstarr and later accompanied by me, it is growing everyday with currently more than 12,000 reads. As a rapper I was very skeptical about "blogging". But we take it from the approach of getting out our views and opinions, but also writing that teaches people how to "listen" to music. Its not about promoting me, its about promoting anyone who makes good music and breaking down the dynamics of an artist. Here's a little more about us.

Here's A Post From Mic Hype called "J.Cole: Mic Check" (Published July 6, 2009)

jcole Today I'm going to reach out on a limb and do something I have never done before. I am going to cosign an artist and predict his "dopeness" barely knowing anything about his music....at all. This first time I heard of J. Cole was a few months back when my sister was like "Yo you need to check him out he's good, I'm telling you he's hot".The only problem with it was it was about that exact same time I downloaded the Drake "So Far Gone" mixtape. Coincidentally after becoming the first artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label (doing so with virtually no prior buzz) he has been compared to Drake more than anybody else. When asked what he thought about it in a hiphopdx interview he candidly said "I really think it's the fact that we're light skinned". Their approach to music and backgrounds let alone voice, flow, and content make them completely different to anyone who halfway pays attention. Like I said without hearing many of his songs these are a few things I know about him that tells me he probably is as good as they say he is.

* He graduated from St. John's University with a Communications degree
-True there are a lot of dumbass people who went to college but a rapper who went and graduated means he has some kind of sense and that rap isn't his only option in life which usually equates to the music being more organic.

*He is cosigned by Jay-Z and Wale Apparently it doesn't take much talent to get signed to record deal nowadays but to be the first one signed to Jay's label and to be on several features and a mini-tour with another upcoming star like Wale is also a good sign.

* He Doesn't Wear Jewelery As you can see from this profile picture he doesn't even have his ears pierced...a rapper without his ears pierced WTF?!? So you probably shouldn't expect to many trendy or materialistic songs from this guy.

*He listened to a lot of Can-i-bus Like myself you either gotta be a lyricist or a huge fan of lyrics to even like Canibus or to know who he is in this day and age. For him to mention Canibus in the same breath as Tupac and Outkast as some of his favorite artist, to me shows he values lyrics.

* His stage name starts with J
For some reason a lot of successful entertainers whose stage name didn't start with "Lil" starts with J. For example Jay-Z, Ja Rule, J-Holiday, Jaekwon, Jamie Foxx, Jibs, Jadakiss, John Legend, Jill Scott, Jazmine Sullivan, Justin Timberlake, and a million other people too!!!

* He Is From The South...But You Woulnd't Know It Even though he is from Fayetville, North Carolina he doesn't try to fit into the mix with other down south rappers. He doesn't really fit in the mix with any region which usually gives you more longevity.

*He Has A Sense Of Humor
In almost of all his interviews he gets in a few jokes about himself or about his progress so far with a sense of honesty and sincerity. One of the best attributes an artist can have is to be funny because that can stand aside from your music i.e. Joe Budden, 50 Cent, and Kanye West say some of the funniest shit known to man.

I still haven't figured out a single verse Riza ever had even though I loved Wu-Tang. When asked what his favorite verse was of his he recited this verse from "The Badness" "Believe in God like the stars up in the sky / Science can tell us how but it can’t tell us why / I seen a baby cry, than seconds later she laughs / The beauty of life, the pain never lasts / The rain always pass / The Sun don’t always shine/ Then it’s gone I’m lonely, but when it’s there I’m fine / I hate the winter time because the nights come quicker / the light makes them whites think I’m a nice young nigga / But at night, they think twice and walk a little faster / It’s funny how years ago I woulda called this niggaa masta / How the tables turn…" and so on and so forth. It’s just real, it’s kinda out there. It’s one of them deep verses that is still cool. You can just listen to it and you wouldn’t even know that it’s so deep.

* You Have Never Heard Of Him
It's been my experience with a lot of people that are up and coming if you have never heard of them then chances are most people haven't either. Which means he still isn't super famous and probably still is hungry to get there. If he already has a lot of hype and buzz its real hard to maintain good music because of the pressure so his low profile might be an advantage.
