Mic Hype is an interactive Hip-Hop blog that reads like a magazine feels like a conversation. Started by Superstarr and later accompanied by me, it is growing everyday with currently more than 12,000 reads. As a rapper I was very skeptical about "blogging". But we take it from the approach of getting out our views and opinions, but also writing that teaches people how to "listen" to music. Its not about promoting me, its about promoting anyone who makes good music and breaking down the dynamics of an artist. Here's a little more about us.

Hometown: the Chi
Today I'm going to reach out on a limb and do something I have never done before. I am going to cosign an artist and predict his "dopeness" barely knowing anything about his music....at all. This first time I heard of J. Cole was a few months back when my sister was like "Yo you need to check him out he's good, I'm telling you he's hot".The only problem with it was it was about that exact same time I downloaded the Drake "So Far Gone" mixtape. Coincidentally after becoming the first artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label (doing so with virtually no prior buzz) he has been compared to Drake more than anybody else. When asked what he thought about it in a hiphopdx interview he candidly said "I really think it's the fact that we're light skinned".
Their approach to music and backgrounds let alone voice, flow, and content make them completely different to anyone who halfway pays attention. Like I said without hearing many of his songs these are a few things I know about him that tells me he probably is as good as they say he is.
*He's Deep But Not Too Deep
The only thing worse than a song that you don't have to use your brain on is one that you have to use your brain too much. I still haven't figured out a single verse Riza ever had even though I loved Wu-Tang. When asked what his favorite verse was of his he recited this verse from "The Badness"
"Believe in God like the stars up in the sky / Science can tell us how but it can’t tell us why / I seen a baby cry, than seconds later she laughs / The beauty of life, the pain never lasts / The rain always pass / The Sun don’t always shine/ Then it’s gone I’m lonely, but when it’s there I’m fine / I hate the winter time because the nights come quicker / the light makes them whites think I’m a nice young nigga / But at night, they think twice and walk a little faster / It’s funny how years ago I woulda called this niggaa masta / How the tables turn…" and so on and so forth.
It’s just real, it’s kinda out there. It’s one of them deep verses that is still cool. You can just listen to it and you wouldn’t even know that it’s so deep.
